Several resources on this site are available
for download in a compressed format. The compression is the standard
ZIP format which both groups collections of files and shrinks their
size. To be used after download, the files must be extracted from
their ZIP collection.
Many software tools are available to extract these files. These tools
allow the user to view the contents of ZIP collections, extract those
contents, and create new collections. WinZip
is one such tool -- a free evaluation version of the software can
be downloaded from the WinZip site
The Windows XP operating system already has ZIP compression tools
built into its directory management software. XP users need no additional
tools to deal with the download files.
Users of non-Windows systems will need to use a compression tool that
can handle the ZIP format, or filter the download through a Windows
machine.
