Java Software Solutions is designed to be used in conjunction with any general purpose Java development environment. On the CD that comes with the book is the standard command-line JDK toolset, as well as the jGrasp integrated development environment. The ISBN for ordering the book in this traditional form is 0-201-78129-8.

The publisher also offers the option of purchasing the book bundled with a particular development environment. The books are shipped to the school bookstore shrinkwrapped with an additional CD containing the software and documentation for the environment. There is a slight increase in price for a bundled version, but only to cover the costs of the CD and bundling process. That is, there is no additional cost for the software itself, so these bundles represent a significant value to the student. You use a different ISBN number depending on the bundle you want.
