Errata

As errors are discovered in the text, we record them into a database which can be accessed by the links below. As new printings of the textbook are run, we try to correct as many of the errors as possible. Therefore, the errors that exist in one copy of the book (from one printing) may not exist in another copy (from another printing).
Java Software Solutions (second edition) is now in its third printing, which corresponds to the addition of the CD. The following links will display the errors that are known to exist in each printing:
Printing 1 Run in January 2000
Printing 2 Run in May 2000
Printing 3 Run in November 2000
We have assigned a subjective severity level to each error, as follows:
  • High - A major flaw. Something that results in a program not working or that leads to a misunderstanding about a fundamental concept.
  • Medium - A situation in which something is mistated or confusing, but nothing that truly misinforms.
  • Low - A minor issue that is essentially inconsequential, but noted for complete accuracy. Includes formatting problems, spelling, grammar, etc.
The errata lists can be sorted in various ways by clicking on the column headings. For example, you may want to sort by the date recorded so that you can quickly see if any errors have been discovered since you last checked the list.
Our thanks to all of you who have found and reported errors. Please use the Error Report Form or write to john.lewis@villanova.edu to let us know about any others.
